Project overview

The proposal involved the part demolition, extension and renovation of an existing mixed-use property with the Uppermill Conservation Area, Saddleworth. The property required the removal of a dilapidated rear extension and corrections to a variety of poor quality internal and external historic changes. HNA investigated historic images to ascertain what the building originally looked like and, despite finding that the building originally only had 1 bay window, decided that the construction of a new stone bay window (to match the existing bay) was the most sensible approach (both in terms of external aesthetics and internal room arrangement).
Considerable work was done to the roadside frontage to bring it in line with modern accessible standards in a way which would sit comfortably within the wider conservation area. The proposals also provided opportunity to tidy the site curtilage, restore original stone boundary walls and create a private parking courtyard to the rear.
